Place niche with the bottom flange of the box centered on the level line. 3. Trace exterior flanges. 4. Cut along line and remove substrate layer. If accessible, install 2 x 4 horizontal cross bracing to support niche. 5. Use polyurethane sealant to adhere niche to studs. 6. Seal joints between niche and backer board using polyurethane sealant or fiberglass mesh and liquid waterproof membrane Installation in New Construction- 1. Determine desired height of niche and mark 2 x 4 accordingly. 2. Install horizontal cross bracing to support niche. 3. Use polyurethane sealant to adhere niche to studs. 4. Next, install 0.5" backer board on all walls and flush to niche 0.5" flanges. 5. Seal joints between niche and backer board using polyurethane sealant or fiberglass mesh and liquid waterproof membrane.
